On Thursday April 17, our El Paso Baseball Hall of Fame "Fab 4" Roll Call continues: Class of 2000 Honoree Al Silva the All District player at Jefferson High School who later was an Assistant Coach for the 1983 Texas High School Baseball Final 4 State Semi-Finalist Burges Mustangs; Class of 2009 Honoree Alan Zinter the multiple All District and All City honoree for Hanks High School, All Conference and PAC 10 “Co-Player of the Year” at the University of Arizona and he was selected in the first round of the Major League Draft by the New York Mets in 1989; El Paso Baseball Hall of Fame Inaugural Class of 1988 Honoree Alberto “Beto” Mendez who started playing in 1925, struck out Major Leaguers Lou Stringer (Chicago Cubs) and Joe Gordon (New York Yankees) in exhibition games in 1944 and in 1955 he brought the Babe Ruth League to El Paso and Class of 2006 Honoree Alex Gutierrez who during his lifetime organized 52 leagues with over 1000 participants playing each year and was recognized as “the Soul of Baseball in the Lower Valley for 57 years” . . .
