For Thursday July 31, 2014 our "Sensational 7 Roll Call" continues: El Paso Baseball Hall of Fame Past President and Class of 2005 Honoree Margarito Banales Jr. the "Umpire Extraordinaire" (1967-2000) who is "among the most highly decorated and accomplished umpires ever in El Paso sports circles" and he has been inducted into 4 different Halls of Fame; Class of 2013 Honoree Mark Grudzielanek, the Hanks High School star who started in the Majors with the Montreal Expos, named to the Chicago Cubs 2000-2009 "Team of the Decade" as a second baseman, selected to National League All Star team as a shortstop in 1996 and retired after a 15 year career in the Major Leagues with a .289 batting average; El Paso Baseball Hall of Fame Board of Directors and Class of 2005 Honoree Mark Miller the All City Co-Most Valuable Player for Eastwood High School, drafted in the 4th Round by the Chicago Cubs in 1972 and he signed with the Texas Rangers following his junior year at UTEP; Class of 2006 Honoree Mark Wasinger who was Old Dominion University's first All American in baseball before being drafted in the 3rd round by the San Diego Padres; El Paso Baseball Hall of Fame Past President and Class of 2000 Honoree Marvin J. Nicchio who served on the Board for El Paso's largest youth baseball program for 25 years; Class of 2003 Honoree Max “El Modesto” Lopez who played over 60 years and he was inducted into the Chihuahua Beisbol Salon de la Fama and Class of 1989 Honoree Michael “Big Mike” Simon who was selected to multiple Arizona-Texas League All Star teams and played in the Mexican National League . . .
