Our El Paso Baseball Hall of Fame congratulates our "Class of 2014" Honorees to be inducted Saturday October 4: Jerry Antwine, John Carpenter, David Del Toro, Kevin Ham and Joe Parra . . . “From a Silver Past to a Golden Future - - We Honor Excellence” . . . For Saturday August 23, 2014 our "Exceptional 8 Roll Call" continues: Silver Anniversary Class of 2012 Honoree John Thomas “Rocky” Coppinger the 3X All City and All District player at Coronado High School, pitched and hit the T-Birds to the 1992 Texas High School Final 4 State Semi-Finals, turned down a scholarship to the University of Nebraska to pitch Hill Junior College to a Conference Championship earning All American honors, signed with the Baltimore Orioles and 4 years after high school he compiled a 10-6 record finishing third in the American League “Rookie of the Year” balloting; Class of 2004 Honoree John Scanlon who started umpiring in 1952 and he has been inducted into 2 different Halls of Fame; Class of 1996 Honoree Juan “Johnny” Huerta the All District and All City player for Bowie High School, as a pitcher he won 201 games and lost only 23 and he has been inducted into 3 different Halls of Fame; Class of 1997 Honoree Juan F. Sandoval the All District player for Jefferson High School who was the first native El Pasoan to receive All-WAC honors for UTEP in baseball hitting over .300 his entire college career and Class of 1992 Honoree Juan Gomez the All District and District MVP Pitcher for Bowie High School who once pitched a no-hitter with no balls hit to the outfield, finished as the first pitcher to come out of a District 1-AAAA season undefeated with a 12-0 pitching record and he signed and played for the Chicago White Sox organization . . .
