John R. Beard
John Beard’s baseball life was nurtured early by his Mom, Virginia Moreno Gregory and his Dad, Richard Beard. John is Blessed with the unconditional support, love and partnership with his wife, Sandra and his children, Jordan, Ryan, Matthew and Gabriela. A very important role model early on in John’s life was his Uncle Eddie Beard and Aunt Rose Beard, owners of Hirby Pest Control. John played for El Paso Baseball Hall of Fame Coach Bob Osborne at Burges High School. Beard earned multiple awards in high school including 1985 & 1986 All-District Baseball Selection, 1985 & 1986 All-City Baseball Selection and 1986 Burges Male Athlete of the Year. John Beard began his coaching career in 1987 at the early age of 20 and his high school coaching career in 1992. John led Andress High School to multiple JV District Championships while also assisting El Paso Baseball Hall of Fame Coach David Del Toro and the Varsity. John continued a successful launch to his coaching career by leading Burges High School to multiple JV District championships and assisting the Varsity. His first opportunity to be a Head Coach came in 1999 when he took over the reins at Burges High School for Coach Bob Osborne winning 2 Bi-District Championships and making the playoffs in 4 out of the 5 years he was at the helm. In 2003, Coach Beard initiated the baseball program at El Dorado High School and led the Aztecs to the playoffs in 2008, 2013, 2014 winning a Bi-District Championship in 2014. Beard’s next stop was at Del Valle High School whom he has led to the playoffs all the years under his leadership winning two District Championships, three Bi-District Championships and 1 Area Championship. Beard has served as a Head Coach for Burges, El Dorado and Del Valle High Schools with 380 victories. Beard has been named El Paso Times Coach of the Year and the Nemo Herrera Coach of the Year in 2013 and 2022. Beard has seen over 25 former players continue their college baseball careers. Also, 3 former players have gone on to play in either a MLB Minor League system or the Mexican Professional League.
