Jose Beto Romo

Jose “Beto” is the proud son of Jose and Juana Romo who have guided his life journey. His siblings Brother Josh Romo, Sisters Lujana Candia, Veronica Avila and Chrisma Romo have provided him with unconditional support through all his challenges and triumphs.
Romo was a standout pitcher for Riverside High School and played a key role on the school’s 2000 Class 4A State Semi-Finalist baseball team in his junior year. That year Romo recorded 118 strikeouts, won 10 games and pitched the first game of the series against Weatherford, in which the Rangers won 1-0. As a sophomore, he had a record of 11-1 on the season. Known for delivering strong performances in high-pressure games, he was drafted by the Texas Rangers in 2001 but decided to continue his pitching career at the collegiate level with Midland College, where he went 10-2 and was an all-conference selection his first year. Romo suffered an injury at the end of the season and therefore received a medical red-shirt for the 2002-03 season. He later transferred to Oklahoma State University, where he unfortunately suffered his second arm injury, however this did not end his baseball career. Romo finished at New Mexico State University where he went 2-2, with 28 appearances and a 5.14 ERA.
After his playing career, Romo began his career with Customs and Border Protection at the Nogales, AZ Port of Entry. Here he was able to filter his skills learned through playing baseball while being an officer, K-9 handler, then supervisor. Romo later transferred closer to home to the Santa Teresa Port of Entry and that is when baseball began to come back into his life, but this time as a coach. He transitioned into coaching flawlessly coaching Youth through High School including the 2026 Santa Teresa High School Desert Warriors to the Round of 8 in the New Mexico High School State Playoffs. At Santa Teresa, Romo has been instrumental in teaching fundamentals, assisting in managing teams, and more importantly, acting as a mentor. Romo has been Blessed with his Amazing wife and high school sweetheart Frances as the Proud Parents of Marcus and Jose “Pep” Romo.
