Rick Rivas has played and excelled at all levels of baseball
He is a strong ambassador for the quality of baseball played in El Paso, Texas
His love for the game allowed him to overcome two major injuries, one being a broken radius and ulna, the other a torn labrum
Earned All Conference honors for his play at the Junior College and Division 1 Level
Secured a professional baseball contract at an open tryout with the Los Angeles Dodgers Earned NJCAA Academic All-American and Big 12 All-Academic honors In 2003 he was drafted by the Colorado Rockies
In 2004 he was drafted by the Pittsburgh Pirates but opted to attend Oklahoma State University
The highlight of his 2005 season at Oklahoma State was beating Texas on April 24, 2005, 3-2 in a game televised nationally by ESPN
The start of his senior year at Oklahoma State ended with a torn labrum that ultimately required surgery
Baseball taught him how to handle adversity, which has allowed him to become successful in his professional career
He is married to Martha Rivas and they have two sons Ricardo Cruz and Joaquin Adrian.
