His senior year he led Riverside High School to its first District championship with a .535 BA, 5-2 pitching record and 1.83 ERA earning All District and All City honors
Played collegiately at Hill Junior College with a .362 BA and 4-2 pitching record
His sophomore year he had a .382 BA with a 6-2 pitching record
Played at Hardin Simmons University where he was the winning pitcher in a 9-inning game against UTEP
